Somya Madan
I am Somya, a final-year PhD student in Prof. Richa Rikhy's lab at IISER Pune, India. My research investigates the role of mitochondrial dynamics in early Drosophila embryogenesis, focusing on how mitochondrial fission impacts gastrulation, one of the crucial developmental processes. To uncover these mechanisms, I utilize advanced techniques such as confocal microscopy, RNA sequencing, and mass spectrometry to explore the intricate roles of mitochondrial morphology proteins in embryogenesis. Looking ahead to my postdoctoral work and beyond, I am deeply interested in translational studies related to mitochondrial diseases. My long-term goal is to contribute to the development of therapeutic strategies targeting mitochondrial dysfunction, bridging fundamental discoveries with clinical applications.
